Personally, I think I'm beginning to see the shift in attitudes of young Indians now visiting the U.S. - of course, many will be tempted to stay in due course, and most of us here do truly appreciate what this country has to offer.
The point I'm trying to make is the comparative state of the nations (both India and the United States), their respective economies, consumer confidence and hopes of their people, is in fact changing mindsets.
There's no denying that this major shift is well on its way. It's no co-incidence that every single Indian I talked to in the last 2 weeks (temporarily here for education/work/whatever... ) immediately ruled out the idea of making the U.S. their home long-term, or even in the medium/short-term.
In stark contrast, though, the H1B visas do get used up within hours of the visa lottery being opened... but I wouldn't assume all of those wanting to work here for some time on a H1B visa will want to stay back.
Again, I don't have statistics to back up the theory - just anecdotal evidence, with a sampling far too small and based on my own personal experience and conversations...

Give them a year or two more, when they have become comfortable with the american lifestyle and facilities we now take for granted (driving on freeways, easy access to libraries, parks to go for a run etc), and they will be probably singing a different tune.

Then I went to Mumbai last year and decided to go for a run, five minutes into the run and i was being chased by 2 dogs (and i don't mean the cops :p). The point i am trying to make here is. There are things in this country that we start taking for granted. lets appreciate it!
Another tip i would suggest to keep your mind occupied is to learn a foreign language. Invest in an Ipod if you do not have one already. Download free podcasts thet teach french,spanish, german etc. Listen to it while running. You are doing two things at the same time, staying fit and learning.
maybe we can have an IV 5K run sometime in the spring if things do not change. just a suggestion..

Let's start our campaign for our own bill immediately. There is no motive to wait. We should pay lobbysts and ask them to approach lawmakers using the argument that legal immigrants need a relief without waiting for amnesty bills for illegal aliens.
The same argument applies, why would someone like Dianne Feinstein or other lawmakers who supported CIR because of industries such as agriculture, turn around and support a bill for legal immigrants when they traditionally have been opposed to bills that favor skilled workers ? The reality is that there will be no new bill until after November. I'm being pessimistic with good reason, look at the example that this Senator (http://www.senate.gov/~levin/newsroom/release.cfm?id=256689) gave regarding a measure that made it to the Senate and collapsed, but they did have success in the house where it passed as they would have wanted it to. What happened in this same case is what has happened to CIR, it got past the Senate but is now facing problems in the house. One reporter might be intrested in our news not evry one, to get evey body atten we need to do it in samrt and in different way..guys bunch of people are thinking the flower day is good, other think it is not, we have this problem from ages.

But please, just trying to beat around the bush is not going to help anyone here for that matter not just me alone. You suggestion of sending flowers seems like that is the only solution to all the problems. I would say the reversal of the July 2 visa bulletine didn't just happen because of the flowers the members sent, the law suit AILA wanted to file against USCIS was one of the major reason apart from the California's Lawmakers letter. So please don't try to cut peoples idea by trying to belittle them, if you don't agree with them it is ok, if everyone agreed on the same thing life will be so dull.

I understand we want to stand alone with our issues and that may be favourable to us from an anti-immi stance taken by many in Govt and otherwise. I am not sure though if by alienating EB retrogression issue with H1B increase we will be able to get anything done.
Our main supporters are teh corporations who hire us and want us to be perm. There bigger concern right now is getting more people who can hired on H1B. Unless we threaten mass exodus, I do not think we stand a chance if we try to run alone with only EB retrogression issue.
People (Senators aginst CIR or SKILL and even NUmbers USA) may say that OK we are not against you folks, but the point is will those same people do something about our predicament if this was the only thing on the table, I dont think so.

funny thing, this SunnySurya guy happens to be from a small consulting company with 8 people out of which everyone got audited and at one point he says he does not know if his application is Eb3 or Eb2 and he is trying to figure it out.

I called up yesterday and the lady on the phone tells me that we need to wait 90 BUSINESS days before we can raise a service ticket etc - Which is like 4 months nearly - November 2nd.
Anyone else got a similar response ?

Here is something to note:
Accepting I485 along with a pending I-140 is part of the rule making by USCIS and so they may choose to change the rule back to "not accept I485 until an I140 petition is approved" just like that good ol' days before 2002, if they want.
But, I don't think they would do that as they need all the money that is being generated by EAD/AP.:rolleyes:

I am a Jul 23rd I-485 filer. Just called USCIS second time (first time no success), went thru their menu and was lucky to get a great Cust Service Rep.
She asked me the I-485 receipt #s, address, primary contact #, DOB, and Zip Code for self and spouse.
She generated a SR for us together and gave us a Conf # for FP notice. She said that you should receive a FP appt notice in next 30 days.
So I guess, perseverance does pay off :)
Hopefully we can get this FP out of the way soon enough.
FYI I am a Bay Area resident.
I am not sure if opening SR helps, especially for TSC. I opened SR 30 days ago and still waiting. They have not scheduled me yet for an appointment.

Please if you truly feel that way seek help, and seek it now, talk to your doctor or to a councilor. Though I won't go into details, I am speaking from personal experience. Sometimes things build up so much that we slip into such a state where we go beyond sadness and frustration and move to true depression.

Sometimes a stressful life event triggers depression. Other times depression seems to occur spontaneously with no identifiable specific cause. Depression is much more than grieving or a bout of the blues.
Depression, true clinical depression, is nothing you can cure with a trip to somewhere else, or having people point out to you how much better you are off than this person or that one.
